Participants will be able to:
Reflect on their authentic selves through private free-writing
Analyze and make interpretations about films and draw conclusions about protagonists
Reflect on things or activities that bring joy through private free-writing
Determine actions they can take to appreciate and act in alignment with their true selves
"Wellness and Authenticity" asks students to reflect upon the benefits that can come from making space for their true selves. To begin, students free-write privately about their authentic selves. Then, we watch two films that show a character's authenticity and the different constraints on it that they encounter. In the first film, a young woman tries to find her place on campus. In the second, a young man finds a way to express himself in a way he loves. After each, students participate in guided reflection and discussion about their inferences and conclusions about the characters. After each film students privately free-write connecting the films and ideas to their own lives.
Note: This class features three Free Write exercises in it, most of class will be sent in individual self-reflection.
