Participants will be able to:
Interpret clinical information about Bipolar Disorder I
Identify how characteristics of a protagonist's diagnosis are integrated with other aspects of their humanity
Make interpretations about protagonists and demonstrate empathy through reflection and discussion
Optional
"Building Awareness About Bipolar Disorder I" offers participants the opportunity to explore lived experiences of Bipolar I through two short documentary films, each featuring a personal narrative from someone with the condition. Participants will first read and reflect on an overview of symptoms and treatment options, using this knowledge to better understand the films' protagonists. They will examine how each individual navigates their symptoms while also exploring other aspects of their identity revealed in the films. Since both films are created by and about the filmmakers, participants will have the unique opportunity to share kind words with them through our _Postcards to Filmmakers_ feature.
Note**:** This class includes supplementary materials that can be completed at the start of class or assigned as homework. If assigned as homework, the class duration may be approximately 15 minutes shorter.
