About Us

Our Mission is to use the power of art to promote mental wellness and bridge cultural and social divides.

Art Opening Minds partners with colleges, universities, and high schools to bring meaningful mental health conversations into everyday educational spaces. Our platform offers ready-to-use, evidence-based classes built around the power of short film. Each class is centered around very short (3-6 minute) films that gives a room full of people a shared, emotional starting point, then guides them through reflection and discussion using a carefully crafted facilitation script. Because our films carry the emotional weight, participants can engage through the lens of the characters. The result is a space that feels safe, honest, and genuinely transformative — whether it's used in a college classroom, a peer support group, a student club, or a faculty training.

The films at the heart of our classes come from Voices With Impact (VWI), our year-long filmmaking grant program that finds and funds underrepresented artists telling important stories about mental health. Each year, VWI selects its themes based directly on what our partner schools and communities are navigating — then awards production grants, mentorship, and a public premiere to the filmmakers who bring those stories to life. Many VWI films have gone on to screen at international festivals, and one has won a Student Academy Award. The artists get real support, and the films they make end up doing what they were made to do: open minds.
