    Participants will be able to:

    • Interpret information about burnout

    • Describe how characteristics of a protagonist's diagnosis are integrated with other aspects of their humanity

    • Identify any signs of burnout in their own lives

    • Describe their plan to take concrete steps that will allow them to address and/or avoid burnout in their own lives

"What Is Burnout?" invites participants to learn about burnout. Students are first invited to read and reflect on an overview of burnout, its signs, a comparison with depression, what to do about it, and how to avoid it, in order to use that knowledge to help them understand the perspective of the protagonist in a short film. They'll watch a documentary depicting a woman's lived experience, and discuss their thoughts, feelings, and what they noticed. They will consider what they learned about burnout and about the protagonist as a whole person, and will wrap up by reflecting on how burnout impacts them, how it can be addressed, and how it can be avoided.

Note: This class includes supplementary materials that can be completed at the start of class or assigned as homework. If assigned as homework, the class duration may be approximately 15 minutes shorter.
